So I'm not entirely sure I can look at CA and say they did a superior job with TWWH1 running smoothly, personally. It is apparently an issue that seems endemic to Total War games, with no particularly known solution. I have not yet played HoI4 (I'm basically waiting for Waking the the Tiger at this point), this subject is of relevant interest to me I HAVE just had to (hopefully temporarily) abandon my third game of TWWH1 at about turn 270, not because of anything to do with the battles OR the wait time between turns (I mean, that's nothing compared to Civ V or my last aborted attempt at SotS2!), but because of the general jankiness of the campaign map stuttering whenever I scroll.
